gave Republicans a big majority in the Kentucky Senate Tuesday. Senate
Majority Leader Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, who is expected in January to
replace David Williams as Senate president, held onto his seat in the 25th
Senate District, defeating Democrat Ralph Hoskins, also of Manchester . In Central Kentucky’s 7th
District, Democratic Senator Julian Carroll of Frankfort ,
a former governor, defeated Republican Frank Haynes, also of Frankfort . Nearby in the 17th District,
Republican Senator Damon Thayer of Georgetown
held off Democrat David Holcomb, also of Georgetown ,
by a wide margin. In Louisville 's
33rd District, Democratic Senator Gerald Neal beat Norris Shelton, and,
in the city’s 37th District, Democratic Senator Perry Clark defeated Republican Chris
Thieneman.
