Republican Majority Victory In Senate


{Frankfort, Kentucky}…Voters gave Republicans a big majority in the Kentucky Senate Tuesday. Senate Majority Leader Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, who is expected in January to replace David Williams as Senate president, held onto his seat in the 25th Senate District, defeating Democrat Ralph Hoskins, also of Manchester. In Central Kentucky’s 7th District, Democratic Senator Julian Carroll of Frankfort, a former governor, defeated Republican Frank Haynes, also of Frankfort. Nearby in the 17th District, Republican Senator Damon Thayer of Georgetown held off Democrat David Holcomb, also of Georgetown, by a wide margin. In Louisville's 33rd District, Democratic Senator Gerald Neal beat Norris Shelton, and, in the city’s 37th District, Democratic Senator Perry Clark defeated Republican Chris Thieneman.
