Beshear Pushing Drug Proposal
{Kentucky}...Governor Steve Beshear is pushing a proposal to hold unscrupulous physicians and other medical professionals accountable for overprescribing painkillers that are being widely abused in Kentucky. Beshear told reporters in Lexington Thursday that he wants to root out "drug dealers in white coats" who are "feeding these devastating addictions." Beshear's plan calls for an advisory board of physicians, dentists, nurses, and pharmacists to help create guidelines to help determine when the prescription monitoring program, known as KASPER, should alert various licensure boards for investigations that could lead to licenses being revoked. The state’s medical licensing board now investigates a doctor only after receiving a complaint.
