Senate Election Set

{Frankfort, Kentucky}... Governor Steve Beshear has scheduled a December 18th election to replace former Senate President David Williams. There are two years left on Williams' unexpired Senate term. State Senator Bob Leeper, an Independent from Paducah, announced Thursday he will seek the position left vacant by the resignation of Williams. Senate Majority Leader Robert Stivers also has announced plans to run, and Republicans and Democrats have been operating under the assumption that he will win. Republicans state Representative Sara Beth Gregory of Monticello and Albany lawyer David Cross said this week they would seek the Republican nomination for the open seat.
